I have wonderful friends, I do. I will never, every deny it. They have been there through thick and thin. And they have listened to me whine and bitch for so long, I owe them big time.
But I was thinking. Every time I break up with someone, they tell me the same cliches, each and every time. And they’re cliches for a reason – there is actual truth to it. So I wondered – how many cliches are there for being dumped? I found a great site called, So You’ve Been Dumped. Not sure if it is still active, but it had a great list of cliches! I included them below and bolded the ones I hear the most.
Any others to add?
- “Everything happens for a reason.”
- “If you were meant to be together, you’d be together.”
- “You are so young, you have time to find the right one.” (EDITOR’S NOTE: YEAH RIGHT! NOT SURE I FEEL THAT WAY ANY MORE!)
- “You are too nice for him.” or “It’s for the best.”
- “No man or woman is worth your tears and the one who is won’t make you cry.”
- “There’s a cover for every pot.”
- “Time heals all wounds.”
- “It obviously wasn’t meant to be.”
- “It couldn’t have been ‘right.”
- “There are other fish in the sea.”
- “Whatever is for ye won’t go by ye.”
- “Men (women) are like buses – another one will be along in 15 minutes.”
- “Things always work out for the best.”
- “You’ll get over it.”
- “Someone better is just around the corner.”
- “What comes around goes around.”
- “You get back what you give.”
- “They’ll get theirs.”
- “He (she) will regret it.”
- “When one door closes another one opens.” (EDITOR’S NOTE: THIS ONE MAY BE MY FAVORITE AND MOST ANNOYING ONE ALL AT THE SAME TIME!)
Ugh, if I ever say any of those things to you – SLAP ME!! I have heard my fair share of cliches over the past few years, and they are NEVER the right thing to say. What people should say is “I’m sorry things didn’t work out”…and leave it at that! ;-P
LOL!! I LOVE THIS – SO true, too. I mean, some of these cliches I do believe, but I too have heard them all hehe 😉
Thanks ladies – I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels this way! XO
Here are the two that drive me nuts:
“You’ll find someone when you stop looking” and
“You need to be happy by yourself first.”
Both true, but annoying coming from people who’ve never spent more than two months of their adult life being single.
Thanks for the link!
OOOO TWO GOOD ONES!!!
